Trail News and Items of Intrest
Hunting season is upon us. Be aware that we share parks with the hunters from now through February. Watch for signs or check it out before you go. We should be visible with our own hunter orange as hunters are not always aware of how close they are to horse trails. You can get dates at www.ohiodnr.com/wildlife/dow/regulations/seasons.aspx. Be aware of the dates and know that you are riding at your own risk._____________________________________________________________________________
Brecksville Stables under new management - Brecksville Stables Inc. a new non-profit, formed by members of the Cuyahoga Chapter of Ohio Horseman's Council and other area equestrians, has been accepted to manage this beautiful 64 stall facility located in Brecksville Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks as of January 1, 2011. The purpose of the corporation is to revitalize the use of the stables by making educational, health, and wellness programs available to the public, and offering various festivities to the surrounding communities while still maintaining the barn as a facility for boarding horses. The community is invited to share in this endeavor through volunteer opportunities and participation in activities of interest. As a non-profit organization, donations are always appreciated. www.brecksvillestables.com

Wayne National Forest Trail Permit price reduction petition. The following petitions are in regards to Wayne National Forest Trail permits price reduction and to open the trails for year round riding. The permits cover Lake Vesuvius, Kinderhook, Stone Church Trail Systems in the Wayne National Forest in the State of Ohio. Wayne National has met with me and I have made a request to lower the permits and open the trails year around. I am hopeful that the requests are being considered and felt WNF needs to see a petition of people that feel the same.
The horse trails permit prices are being bundled with the atv. When looking at other horse trail systems in the state of Ohio and across the nation the price of $45.00 per season, being April 15th to December 15, and $12.00 for a daily permit is high, as said to me by many! Wayne National Forest has beautiful trails and should be more available to ride, not just for those traveling to but the local horsemen/women as well. Wayne National owns a major part of Lawrence County so closing the trails limits the local horsemen/women during that time. I feel there would be no difference of impact on the horse trails during the closed periods compared to the open. Please contact Jill Romanello (740) 456-7096 for any questions regarding this matter.
